Using a tampon whilst fasting

Question:-

I use tampons as I have a discharge problem. I try not to use them when I fast, as I know it’s not recommended. However, I forgot during the day that I was fasting and inserted one. Is my fast valid?

Answer:-

It is recorded in the Kitaabs of Fiqh that using a tampon is generally Makrooh. However, if a dry tampon was inserted into the vaginal passage, then the fast will remain intact, but if the inserted tampon was removed and re-entered into the vaginal passage (with wetness), then the fast will be nullified. In conclusion, if a dry tampon was entered once and thereafter removed and discarded, then the fast will be valid.

وعن محمد بن سلمة البلخي رحمه الله انه يكره للمرأة ان تضع الكرسف في الفرج الداخل قال لانه يشبه النكاح بيدها (المحيط البرهاني 1/401 – الفتاوى التاترخانية 1/478)

أدخل أصبعه اليابسة فيه أي دبره أو فرجها ولو مبتلة فسد، ولو أدخلت قطنة إن غابت فسد وإن بقي طرفها في فرجها الخارج لا (الدر المختار و حاشية ابن عابدين 2/397)

 وَلَوْ أَدْخَلَ أُصْبُعَهُ فِي اسْتِهِ أَوْ الْمَرْأَةُ فِي فَرْجِهَا لَا يَفْسُدُ، وَهُوَ الْمُخْتَارُ إلَّا إذَا كَانَتْ مُبْتَلَّةً بِالْمَاءِ أَوْ الدُّهْنِ فَحِينَئِذٍ يَفْسُدُ لِوُصُولِ الْمَاءِ أَوْ الدُّهْنِ هَكَذَا فِي الظَّهِيرِيَّةِ. (الفتاوى الهندية 1/204)
