Using Yoga as a treatment for polycystic ovaries

Jun 14, 2023 | Medical Matters

QUESTION:-

I’ve got polycystic ovaries and have been advised to use Yoga as a form of treatment. I understand that Yoga has its origins in Hinduism. Will it be permissible to do the exercises if I leave out the meditation?

ANSWER:-

Allah Ta’ala has blessed us with the pure and pristine Deen of Islam. A believer should always try to solve his or her problems (irrespective of the nature) in accordance to Shariah. Now, Yoga stems or originates from Hinduism hence, using Yoga exercises as a treatment for one’s illness will not be permissible. It is Allah Ta’ala that cures our illnesses, and not the treatment, so our focus should be towards Allah Ta’ala. Using various forms of treatment is Sunnah, therefore, there is no harm in adopting the Sunnah and using treatment. However, the patient should ensure that the treatment is of a permissible nature. An upright and pious doctor may be consulted for further advice in this regard.

Ibn Umar Radiallahu Anhu narrates, “He who imitates any people (in their actions) is considered to be amongst of them.”

ALLAH TA’ALA ALONE IN HIS INFINITE KNOWLEDGE KNOWS BEST!
