QUESTION:

Is there anything wrong in going away on holiday to foreign places? Is this found in the practices of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam or the Sahaba Radiallahu Anhum?

ANSWER:

It is not established that the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam or any of the Sahabah Radiallahu Anhum went on a holiday. However, there is no Shar’i prohibition in going on a holiday. However, care must be taken that one does not be extravagant in his spending, nor should he go to such places where Fitnah is widespread.

Whilst going on holiday is permissible, one must remember that he is still a Muslim, and he must fulfill his duties towards Allah Ta’ala. He is not exempted from abiding by the laws of the Shari’ah.

However, based on the current state of the Ummah, the money should rather be given in Saqadah in order to reap rewards for one’s hereafter.
