Advising One’s Child

Oct 4, 2025 | Family Matters

QUESTION:

Thirteen years ago, my eldest son had a stillborn child, whom we named ‘Muhammad’. Two years later, my younger son had twins, one of whom we named ‘Muhammad’. My elder son resents me for naming this second child ‘Muhammad’ as well, and blames this act of mine for the failure of his marriage and his drug addiction. Am I at fault for being insensitive to him by naming both children ‘Muhammad’?

ANSWER:

From the outset, there is nothing wrong that you have done by naming your grandsons ‘Muhammad’. There is immense Barakah in the name ‘Muhammad’. You should explain to your son that every thing happens with the permission and decree of Allah Ta’ala. Life and death are in the control of Allah Ta’ala alone. It is absolutely despicable to think, and say, that he is on drugs and his wife left him because of naming his son ‘Muhammad’. Such a person’s Imaan can be at stake for uttering such heinous statements. He is merely using this as a scapegoat to sanction his evil habits.

May Allah Ta’ala make it easy for you. Aameen.
