Vaccinating infants against diseases

Feb 3, 2022 | Medical Matters

Question:-

Should children be immunized during infancy?

Answer:-

If the ingredients or content of the vaccine is Halaal, then it will be permissible to vaccinate the child with the proviso that the child will not be harmed in any way by being vaccinated.

If the ingredients are Haraam, then it will only be permissible to vaccinate the child if a Halaal alternative is found. It will not be permissible to administer the Haraam vaccine as a precautionary measure.

However, we are not in favour of immunizing children. Many children have never been vaccinated in their lives, and yet they are perfectly healthy and well, whilst those that have been vaccinated, have contracted various diseases such as measles, chicken pox, mumps etc. This is a clear indication that both health and illness are from Allah Ta’ala. The vaccination does not provide 100% protection.

In one Hadith, Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “Cure your ill through Sadaqah.” By discharging continuous Sadaqah, there is hope that Allah Ta’ala will protect us from all forms of illnesses Insha’Allah.
