Water emerging from the eyes

Feb 8, 2024 | Medical Matters

QUESTION:

If there is pain in the eyes and water emerges, then Wudhu breaks (as in the case of “pink eyes”), but if there is no pain in the eyes, nor are they sore, then Wudhu will not break by the mere flowing of tears. Is this Mas’ala correct? Please provide references.

ANSWER:

Yes, the above is correct. If water emerges from one`s eyes due to pain, then it is an indication of an infection, sore or wound, thus Wudhu will be invalidated. However, if water emerges without any pain, then the Wudhu will not be invalidated. [Re: Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah: Vol 8, Pg 136 / Fatawaa Darul Uloom Zakariyya Vol:1 Pg:650]
