QUESTION:
Is it permissible to perform Jumu’ah Salaah on a school premises during school hours, considering that generally access to the school is limited during school hours, and the general public are not allowed in school?
ANSWER:
If the school is located in such a city or suburb where all the conditions of Jumuah are found, then it will be permissible to perform Jumuah in the school. However, the venue should be left open to the public, as schools are generally in residential areas which are regarded as safe and protected, hence it should be kept open to the Muslim public. However, if the school premises are kept locked because students might leave the school earlier than usual, or there is a fear of drug peddlers having easy access to students, or there is a fear of theft from classrooms that generally remain open, then the school gates may be kept closed. In this instance, the gates remaining closed is not to prevent other Musallis from attending the Jumuah Salaah, but rather, it is for administrative purposes or security reasons which does not prevent the validity of Jumuah.
فلا يضر غلق باب القلعة لعدو أو لعادة قديمة لأن الإذن العام مقرر لأهله وغلقه لمنع العدو لا المصلي، نعم لو لم يغلق لكان أحسن كما في مجمع الأنهر معزيا لشرح عيون المذاهب(الدر المختار و حاشية ابن عابدين 2/152)
الجواب: صورت مسئولہ میں فیکٹری ، اسکول، کالج وغیرہ ایسے شہرمیں ہیں جس میں شرائط جمعہ پاۓ جاتے ہیں یافاء شہر میں ہیں تو ان سب میں جمعہ قائم کر نامی اور درست ہے ۔ اور باہر سے لوگوں کا نہ آنا مانع نہیں ہے۔(فتاوی دار العلوم زکريا 2/689)
