Wearing a dark green Turban

 Question:-

Is it permissible to wear a turban that is dark green in colour? Is a green turban considered as Sunnah?

Answer:-

There isn’t any authentic Hadith which states that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam wore a green turban. Yes, it is proven from some narrations that the Sahaabah wore green turbans. Similarly, some of the angels that descended on the occasion of Badr were wearing green Turbans.

There are, however, narrations proving that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaih Wasallam wore green clothing. Also, the clothing of the dwellers of Jannah will be green, hence, it is a beloved and desired colour. However, since the green Turban is a symbol of the Barelwis in this day and age, one should refrain from wearing it.

عن سليمان بن أبي عبد الله، قال: ” أدركت المهاجرين الأولين يعتمون بعمائم كرابيس سود، وبيض، وحمر، وخضر، وصفر، يضع أحدهما العمامة على رأسه، ويضع القلنسوة فوقها، ثم يدير العمامة هكذا , يعني: على كوره لا يخرجها من تحت ذقنه ” (مصنف ابن ابي شيبة ص181 ج5)

وعن ابن مسعود رضي الله عنه كانت سيماء الملئكة يوم بدر عمائم قد ارخوها بين اكتافهم خضرا او صفرا او حمرا (سبل الهدي والرشاد في سيرة خير العباد ص44 ج4)

وعن أبي رِمْثة رفاعَةَ التَّميْمِيِّ رضيَ اللَّه عنه قَالَ: رأَيت رسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم وعلَيْه ثوبانِ أَخْضَرانِ. رواهُ أَبو داود، والترمذي بإِسْنَادٍ صحيحٍ  (رياض الصالحين ص274)
