Wudhu for one who has had eye surgery

QUESTION:

A person underwent eye surgery and the doctor instructed her not to wash her face for 20-25 days. Please advise as to how she should make Wudhu to pray Salaah.

ANSWER:

She may make Masah (that is passing wet hands over the face) if washing the face will prove harmful according to the doctors. If washing the face is not harmful, but washing only the area of surgery is harmful, then Masah should be made only on the area of surgery or the patch covering the eye, and the rest of the face should be washed. The rest of the Wudhu should be completed as normal.

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي غَنِيَّةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، قَالَ : إذَا كَانَ فِي الْيَدِ ، أَوِ الرِّجْلِ الْجُرْحٌ فَخَشِيَ عَلَيْهِ صَاحِبُهُ إِنْ أَصَابَهُ الْمَاءُ ، مَسَحَ عَلَى الْخِرْقَةِ إذَا تَوَضَّأَ(مصنف ابن أبي شيبة # 1454)

وكما يجوز المسح على الخف يجوز المسح على الجبائر إذا كان يضره المسح على الجراحة وإذا كان لا يضره المسح على الجراحة لا يجوز المسح على الجبائر(فتاوى قاضيخان 1/23)

وإذا زادت الجبيرة على نفس الجراحة فإن ضرها الحل والمسح يمسح على ما يواري الجراحة وما يوازي موضعا صحيحا وإن ضرها المسح لا الحل يمسح على الخرقة التي على رأسها ويغسل ما حولها وإن لم يضره المسح ولا الحل غسل ما حولها ومسحها نفسها وسوى ذلك بين الجراحة وغيرها مثل الكي والكسر هكذا في فتح القدير ويكتفي بالمسح على أكثر الجبيرة. هكذا في الهداية وبه يفتى كذا في المضمرات(الفتاوى الهندية 1/35)
