Zakaah Not Reaching The Recipient
QUESTION:
A person enlisted my sister to give their Zakaat to the Muadhin in the town. The Muadhin gave her the banking details for her to EFT the money. He did not receive the money and is unsure if he gave her the correct details. Is it my sister’s responsibility to give him the Zakaat again?
ANSWER:
Firstly, the bank should be contacted to reverse the transaction. If this fails and the recipient of Zakaat (the Muadhin) does not receive the money in his account, then the Zakaat will not be discharged. Hence, the person who gave your sister the money will have to discharge the Zakaat again, as it did not reach the recipient of Zakaat.
Furthermore, your sister will not be responsible as she had fulfilled her duty by making the EFT of the Zakaat amount.
