Question:-
Is it permissible to wear nail polish, provided that no non-Mahram would see it, and it is removed before making Wudhu.
Answer:-
The wearing of nail polish is a western concept initiated by the Kuffar. In the Quraan Sharif we are instructed to contradict the ways and mannerisms of the Kuffar in every way. Allah Ta’ala states, “And do not incline towards those who do wrong (the Kuffar) for then the fire (of Jahannam) shall reach you, and you will not have any helpers (to save you) against (the punishment of) Allah and you will not be assisted (by anyone.) [Re:- Surah Hood, Verse 113] In conclusion, your Wudhu may be valid due to removing the polish before making Wudhu, and you wouldn’t be appearing before any Ghair Mahram, but you will most certainly be imitating the Kuffar which is impermissible, hence, we advise abstention. However, there is no harm in utilizing Mehndi as a colouring on the nails.
