Method of cleaning an impure carpet
Question:-
If a child vomits on the carpet, or some impurity spills onto a carpet, then what is the correct method of purifying it? Will wiping the carpet with wet wipes suffice in cleansing it?
Answer:-
The Fuqaha have stated that if a carpet is impure, then the carpet should be washed and left to dry. Once it is dried, it should be washed for the second time and left to dry. This process is then to be repeated for the third time. When the carpet dries on the third time, then it will be considered as clean. This is the correct procedure prescribed for cleansing impurity from a carpet.
If this method is difficult for some reason, then a wet cloth may be used to remove the impurity. When one is at ease that the impurity has been removed, then the carpet will be considered as clean. This method is prescribed by the Ulama as well. [Re:- Fataawa Darul Uloom Zakariyya Pg.752 Vol. 1]
We advise that either of the above procedures are implemented in removing Najaasat. There is no real need to utilise wet wipes when water is available. Yes, if there is a necessity, where a person is travelling or water is not available immediately for some reason, and impurity had fallen on carpet or fabric, then wet wipes (which contain adequate wetness in removing the impurity) may be utilised in removing the Napaaki, so that the impurity doesn’t spread over to other areas.
