Question:-
A young boy inherited a substantial amount of money from his father. He has now reached the age of puberty. Can the funds be handed over to him in terms of Shariah?
Answer:-
When a boy becomes Baaligh then his wealth should be handed over to him if he is intelligent enough to control his finances. The jurists have written that if one spends his wealth in Halaal avenues, refrains from Haraam avenues and doesn’t squander his wealth, then this is an indication of him being intelligent enough to control his finances. Since the son has already passed the age of maturity (in our scenario), his inheritance may be handed over to him, particularly if he is capable of controlling his finances.
اذا بلغ الغلام غير رشيد لم يسلم اليه ماله —– ومعني الرشد ان ينفق المال فيما يحل ويمسك عما يحرم ولا يتصرف فيه بالتبذير والاسراف (المختصر القدوري ص390)
