Imaam that hasn’t yet turned 15 leading the Taraweeh Salaah

Question:-

My son was born in October 2008. He is not yet Baaligh, but is a Haafidh. Can he lead Taraweeh prayers this year, based on his Islamic age?

Answer:-

A boy reaches puberty either through nocturnal emission or ejaculation. If he didn’t experience any of these and has reached the age of 15, then he will be considered as Baaligh. Such a boy is permitted to lead the congregation in Salaah. However, in your instance, your son hasn’t yet reached the age of 15 Islamically. He is currently 14 years and 10 months Islamically, hence, he will not be permitted to lead the Taraweeh Salaah unless he had previously experienced nocturnal emission, or ejaculation, or experiences any of these prior to Ramadaan.

و(وبلوغ الغلام بالاحتلام) في النوم مع رؤية الماء (والإحبال، والإنزال) في اليقظة (إذا وطئ) والأصل هو الإنزال، والإحبال دليله (فإن لم يوجد ذلك) المذكور (فحتى يتم له ثمان عشرة سنة) ويطعن في التاسعة عشرة (عند أبي حنيفة. وبلوغ الجارية بالحيض، والاحتلام، والحبل) والإنزال، ولم يذكره,و صريحا لأنه قل ما يعلم منها. والأصل هو الإنزال والحيض والحبل دليله (فإن لم يوجد ذلك) المذكور (فحتى يتم لها سبع عشرة سنة) وتطعن في الثامنة عشرة، عند أبي حنيفة أيضا (وقال أبو يوسف ومحمد: إذا تم للغلام والجارية خمس عشر سنة فقد بلغا) لأن العادة الفاشية أن البلوغ لا يتأخر عن هذه المدة، قال الإمام برهان الأئمة البرهاني والإمام النسفي وصدر الشريعة: وبه يفتي، (اللباب ص71 ج2)
