Attending Eid functions which are against Shariah

Mar 29, 2023 | Purdah

Question:-

My family will be hosting an Eid function this Eid. There will be no Purdah between males and females and photos will be taken. Is it correct for me to attend since my wife is in Purdah?

Answer:-

At the onset it should be borne in mind that it is imperative to join family ties, to be kind to relatives and meet them occasionally, but this must be done within the parameters of Shariah. One should not compromise on any of the dictates of Shariah merely to please one’s relatives.

The Eid function under discussion includes a host of vice and evils, such as intermingling of sexes, taking of pictures etc. regarding which, severe warnings have been mentioned in the Mubarak Ahaadith of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam.

We, therefore, advise you to uphold the command of Allah Ta’ala and to refrain from attending the function unless the family are prepared to host the function as required by Shariah. If they are not prepared to rectify matters at this stage, then you should not sever family ties, but gradually try to rectify the matter after consulting with some senior that will guide you correctly. In the meantime, you should visit your relatives at their homes on the morning of Eid, and by doing so, you will be pleasing Allah Ta’ala and your family members.
