Entering And Leaving The Home

QUESTION:

Is it a Sunnah to enter one’s home with the right foot and exit with the left foot?

ANSWER:

It is an Adab (etiquette) to enter one’s home with the right foot and exit with the left foot.

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُحِبُّ التَّيَمُّنَ مَا اسْتَطَاعَ فِي طُهُورِهِ وَتَنَعُّلِهِ وَتَرَجُّلِهِ‏.‏ وَكَانَ قَالَ بِوَاسِطٍ قَبْلَ هَذَا فِي شَأْنِهِ كُلِّهِ‏.‏(صحيح البخاري #5380)

Hadrat Aisha Radiallahu Anha narrated that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam loved to start doing things from the right side whenever possible; in performing ablution, putting on his shoes, and combing his hair. (Al-Ash’ath said: Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam used to do so in all his affairs.)
