A Haa’idha (menstruating woman) responding to the Adhaan

Question:

Is it Mustahab for a woman to respond to the Adhaan and what is the ruling if a woman is menstruating?

Answer:

It is Mustahab for a woman to respond to the Adhaan. However, there is a difference of opinion in regards to a menstruating woman responding to the Adhaan. According to majority of the jurists, a menstruating woman shouldn’t respond to the Adhaan, as responding refers to leaving one’s chores and proceeding to the place of Salaah, even though she doesn’t perform Salaah in the Masjid, nor is she able to perform Salaah due to her menses.
