QUESTION:
If we adjust our clothing with both hands when changing positions in Salaah, does it break the Salaah?
ANSWER:
According to the Hanafi Madhab, Amal-e-Katheer refers to excessive movement in Salaah that is not carried out for the correctness of Salaah and thus invalidates the Salaah. The most correct view (regarding Amal-e-Katheer) is that an onlooker observes the movement of the Musalli from a distance and is certain that the person is not in Salaah due to his excessive movement.
Similarly, when both hands are being used in Salaah at the same time, it is referred to as Amal-e-Katheer. For example, if a female adjusts her scarf using both hands at the same time, or a minor movement takes place three times consecutively, then it is categorized as Amal-e-Katheer.
One view states that whether an action is considered Amal-e-Katheer or not is left to the opinion of the one involved. If he regards it as minimal movement, then it will be categorized as minimal movement, and if he regards it as excessive movement, then it will be considered excessive movement.
