QUESTION:
There are some relatives who are troublesome and behave badly towards me. As a result, I ignore their phone calls and their messages to avoid any conflict and getting hurt by them. I have completely cut ties with some of them due to their Fitnah. Does this make me sinful?
ANSWER:
There is no harm avoiding them if they are causing inconvenience and trouble to you. However, if you meet them, then you should make Salaam to them, and if they happen to come in your direction, then don’t change your direction but meet them with a smiling face. You can make Salaam via WhatsApp so that the discussion is kept short and sweet. Don’t hold any grudges against them, keep your heart clean and don’t backbite about them. Always make Dua for them. This will suffice at this stage. If things improve at a later stage, then try to maintain family ties in a better manner. There are numerous virtues mentioned for maintaining family ties.
