QUESTION:
Who are the beneficiaries of child grant and on what can the money be spent?
ANSWER:
It is to be used on the child (and not on the parent), hence it will be regarded as the Milkiyat of the child. If the child passes away or the child is absent from the country then the child grant will fall away as stated on the website. This is a clear indication that the funds belong to the child but the guardian is merely controlling the funds for the child.
If food was bought with only the child’s money exclusively for the child, then the food should not be consumed by the guardian. Yes, the guardian may purchase the left-over portion of the food from the child at a fair value and then consume the food. However, if groceries were jointly purchased by the guardian and children for the house then all contributors may partake of the meal.
The wet-wipes bought with the child’s money can only be used on that specific child and not on the other children.
