QUESTION:
What is the status of the fast if the nose bleeds on awakening because of dry weather, and if phlegm comes out the mouth with a little blood in it?
ANSWER:
Fundamentally, bleeding of the nose will not nullify one’s fast. Yes, if the blood goes down the nasal passage into the throat, then one’s fast will be invalidated. Similarly, merely seeing blood in the phlegm will not nullify one’s fast. Yes, if the blood enters the throat, then one’s fast will be invalidated on condition that the blood was more than the saliva.
