Bleeding Pimples
Q1. I have been experiencing some issues with bleeding pimples and I wanted some clarification with regards to a Ma’zoor. In order to become a Ma’zoor, the condition (the bleeding pimple) needs to be consistent for the period of one Salaah time. What if the bleeding starts in the middle of a Salaah time? For example, the bleeding starts during Zuhr time, so do I have to wait until the end of Zuhr time, or do I wait until the end of Asr time? If it is the latter, then what would I do if the bleeding occurs before Jumu’ah or Eid Salaah, as waiting will cause me to miss these Salaah?
A1. In order for a person to be classified as a Ma’zoor, he will need to experience the specific ‘Uzr (excuse) for a full Salaah time period. Hence, if he experienced it in the middle of Zuhr time, he will need to wait until the end of Asr time (whilst experiencing the ‘Uzr throughout) for him to be classified as a Ma’zoor. In the event of such an ‘Uzr occurring before Eid Salaah (after sunrise) or before Jumu’ah Salaah (after midday), a person will have to wait until the end of Zuhr Salaah time (in the case of Eid Salaah) and until the end of Asr Salaah time (in the case of Jumu’ah Salaah) for him to be classified as a Ma’zoor. In the unfortunate event of the Eid and Jumu’ah Salaahs being missed in the interim, a person will have to make the Jumu’ah up by making a Qadhaa Zuhr at a later stage. And a person will have to make Taubah for missing the Eid Salaah as there is no Qadhaa for Eid Salaah.
Q2. If the bleeding occurs during Maghrib time and I have to wait until the end of Maghrib time to perform Salaah, then, until when will I wait to become a Ma’zoor so I can perform my Esha Salaah?
A2. If the ‘Uzr occurs during Maghrib time, then the Mas’ala will follow the same concept as above.
Q3. If I am absolutely certain that the bleeding will continue for a period of one Salaah time, do I still have to wait to become a Ma’zoor?
A3. Even if a person is quite certain that the ‘Uzr will continue for a full Salaah time, he will still have to wait until the end of one full Salaah time to become a Ma’zoor.
Q4. Do I need to change the plaster, or whatever I use to cover the wound, at every Salaah time due to it having blood on it?
A4. If by changing the plaster (which contains blood) you would be unable to complete your Ṣalaah before the blood reappears, then it is not necessary to change the plaster, though it remains preferable to do so. However, if by changing the plaster you are able to perform and complete your Ṣalaah without the blood recurring, then it becomes obligatory to change the plaster.
Q5. Sometimes I have multiple pimples in the same region which bleed at different times. Therefore, sometimes I am already a Ma’zoor but then a new wound starts bleeding, so, do I have to wait to become Ma’zoor again from the other wound?
A5. If the bleeding from a particular wound (or pimple) was the cause for a person to be classified as a Maʿzoor, then the occurrence of bleeding from any other wound (or pimple) will invalidate the Wudhu.
