Question:-
The night of Me’raj is celebrated every year in our Masjid. The people consider this night equal in blessings to Shabe-e-Baraat and Shab-e-Qadr. Also, it is known to be a night of staying awake. However, in another Masjid, the Ulama stopped celebrating this night for the past 9 years and explained that, this night is not spent in worship like Shab-e-Baraat and Shab-e-Qadr. There is no special virtue proven from the Quraan and Hadith in regards to this night. This night was never celebrated in the lifetime of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, nor in the time of Sahaaba Radiallahu Anhum, nor the Tabi’een. Is this correct?
Answer:-
Firstly, it cannot be stated with certainty when the event of Me’raj took place. The actual month and night is unknown. Assuming that the actual night was known, then there is no proof of any particular importance being afforded to any particular Ibaadaat on this night, during the era of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, the Sahaaba Radiallahu Anhum or the pious predecessors. Therefore, those Ulama that are against having any particular programme on this night are on the Haqq (truth). It is necessary to bring an end to the special programmes held in different Masaajid on this night.
