Character Reformation

QUESTION:

I feel unhappy with my character and wish to improve on it. The closer I feel to Allah Ta’ala, the harder it is to accept certain character traits. How can I overcome this?

ANSWER:

You should get in contact with a reliable and experienced Sheikh and explain your condition to him in detail. Seek his guidance regarding your character and conduct, and thereafter follow his advice and make a sincere effort to act upon it consistently. In this way, with sincere effort and perseverance, there is hope that Allah Ta’ala will improve your Akhlaaq and character.

رواه أبو الدرداء رضي الله عنه أن النبي ﷺ قال: «مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ أَثْقَلُ فِي الْمِيزَانِ مِنْ حُسْنِ الْخُلُقِ، وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يُبْغِضُ الْفَاحِشَ الْبَذِيءَ»  رواه الترمذي

Hadrat Abu Darda Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Nothing is heavier on the scale of deeds than good character.”
