QUESTION:
The following excerpt is from an assignment of someone doing B.Ed Honours:
“You want to investigate how LBQTI+ learners find safe spaces in the school and plan to interview them using a snowball sampling technique. Discuss the ethical considerations that will inform your research project.
Attend to the following in your response:
• An overview of the issues of LBQTI+ in education (100 words)
• Ethics in research (300 words)
• Doing research with vulnerable groups (500 words)
• Issues of confidentiality, anonymity and privacy (500 words)”
What are the effects that these types of assignments/exams will have on the state of a Muslim’s Imaan, where a person has to tacitly give approval to such concepts?
ANSWER:
One should refrain from undertaking such assignments or research, as there is a fear of one losing his Imaan since one is indirectly approving of LBQTI+ by undertaking the assignment. As a Muslim, one should strongly oppose and reject the concept of LBQTI+ and have absolutely nothing to do with it due to it being in direct conflict with the Quraan and Hadith. If it is a university requirement, it is necessary to quit studying if the university is not prepared to exempt one from participating in the research. By getting involved in such a research the seriousness of the matter leaves the heart until one finally inclines towards it. These are the various plots of Shaytaan and his agents on the earth, to deceive us and destroy our Imaan. Furthermore, they are encouraging a snowball sampling technique which, in essence, means that you are being used by them to recruit more supporters to join in the research. If you are protected from being affected by this filth, then it is possible that the recruits could fall into the trap, for which the recruiter will be responsible in the court of Almighty Allah for directing him towards evil.
ومن فعل ذلك مستحلا ارتد، ووجب قتله بالردة تارة رجما، وتارة غير رجم. كما يجوز أن يمثل بالمرتد (التجريد للقدوري مسئلة 1417)
يقول القرطبي: – ” قوله تعالى: – {فلا تقعدوا معهم حتى يخوضوا في حديث غيره} أي غير الكفر {إنكم إذاً مثلهم} فدل بهذا على وجوب اجتناب أصحاب المعاصي إذا ظهر منهم منكر؛ لأن من لم يجتنبهم فقد رضي فعلهم، والرضا بالكفر كفر… (3) “
) فَلا تَقْعُدُوا مَعَهُمْ حَتَّى يَخُوضُوا فِي حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِ (أي غير الكفر.) إِنَّكُمْ إِذاً مِثْلُهُمْ( فدل بهذا على وجوب اجتناب أصحاب المعاصي إذا ظهر منهم منكر ؛ لأن من لم يجتنبهم فقد رضي فعلهم ، والرضا بالكفر كفر (الجامع لاحكام القراٰن 5/418 / تفسير القرطبي ص418 ج5)
مَنْ سَنَّ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ سُنَّةً حَسَنَةً فَعَمِلَ بِهَا مَنْ بَعْدَهُ، كَانَ لَهُ أَجْرُهَا وَأَجْرُ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ بِهَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ، وَمَنْ سَنَّ سَنَّةً سَيِّئَةً فَعَمِلَ بِهَا مَنْ بَعْدَهُ، كَانَ عَلَيْهِ وِزْرُهَا، وَوِزْرُ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ» (ابن حبان)
Although LBQTI+ is related to females, we will quote the Ahadith of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam in which stern warnings have been cited for those involved in the filthy act of sodomy and other similar actions which includes females:
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ تَوَلَّى غَيْرَ مَوَالِيهِ، وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ غَيَّرَ تُخُومَ الْأَرْضِ، وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ كَمِهَ أَعْمَى عَنِ السَّبِيلِ، وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ لَعَنَ وَالِدَهُ، وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ ذَبَحَ لِغَيْرِ اللهِ، وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ وَقَعَ عَلَى بَهِيمَةٍ، وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ عَمِلَ عَمَلَ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ، وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ عَمِلَ عَمَلَ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ، وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ عَمِلَ عَمَلَ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ (السنن الكبرى للبيهقي #17017)
Ibn Abbas Radiallāhu Anhuma narrates that Nabi Salallāhu Alaihi Wasallam said, “May Allah Ta’ala curse the one who turns to someone other than his masters. May Allah Ta’ala curse the one who changes the borders of the earth (that is, changes the boundary of the border so that extra land can be added on his side). May Allah Ta’ala curse the one who turns away the blind from the path (by not guiding him along to his destination.) May Allah Ta’ala curse the one who curses his parents. May Allah Ta’ala curse the one who slaughters for someone other than Allah Ta’ala (by slaughtering in other than the name of Allah such as the name of a deity or saint). May Allah Ta’ala curse the one who commits adultery with an animal. May Allah Ta’ala curse the one who does the actions of the people of Loot, May Allah Ta’ala curse the one who does the actions of the people of Loot, May Allah Ta’ala curse the one who does the actions of the people of Loot (sodomy and similar related evil.)”
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ مَنْ وَجَدْتُمُوهُ يَعْمَلُ عَمَلَ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ فَاقْتُلُوا الْفَاعِلَ وَالْمَفْعُولَ بِهِ (سنن ابن ماجة #2561)
Ibn Abbas Radiallahu Anhuma reports that Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Whoever you find engaged in the action of the people of Loot (sodomy), then kill the one who does it, and the one upon whom it is done.”
عن مجاهد قال : لو أن الذي يعمل ذلك العمل ـ يعني عمل قوم لوط ـ اغتسل بكل قطرة من السماء و كل قطرة في الأرض لم يزل نجسا(شعب الإيمان #5403)
Mujāhid Rahimahullah said: “If a person who commits this act (of sodomy) has to bath with every drop of water in the heavens and the Earth, then too he will remain impure.”
In conclusion, it is impermissible to conduct the survey.
