Covering the head whilst eating

Question:-

What is the ruling with regards to covering the head when eating? Will the same ruling apply when eating snacks?

Answer:-

Allama Shaami Rahimahullah states that there is no harm eating with the head exposed, but it is better to cover the head. There is a narration recorded in Al-Isabah that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam wore a white Topi in the middle of his head whilst eating, which indicates that it is better to cover the head whilst eating.

ولا بأس بالأكل متكئا أو مكشوف الرأس في المختار (رد المحتار ص340 ج6)

فكلمة لا باس وان كان الغالب استعمالها فيما تركه اولي

عن محمد بن سلام، عن الحسن، قال: وكان بيكند عن رجل من الصحابة، قال: أكلت مع رسول اللَّه صلّى اللَّه عليه وآله وسلم، ورأيت عليه قلنسوة بيضاء في وسط رأسه (الاصابة ص277 ج5)
