Deceased person aware of those who make Isaale Thawaab

QUESTION:

With regards to sending Isaale Thawaab to the Marhoomeen, do they know by whom it was sent?

ANSWER:

Ibn Qayyim Rahimahullah mentioned in his Kitaab titled ‘Kitaab-ur-Rooh’ that when a person goes to the Qabrastaan, recites, and passes the rewards over to the deceased, then the deceased recognize him and attain comfort through it. The following is quoted in Kitaab-ur-Rooh,

قال ابن عبد البرّ ثبت عن النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم أنه قال ما من مسلم يمرّ على قبر أخيه كان يعرفه في الدنيا فيسلّم عليه إلا ردّ الله عليه روحه حتّى يردّ عليه السلام.

 فهذا نص في أنه يعرفه بعينه و يردّ عليه السلام (كتاب الروح 25)

Ibn Abdul Barr Rahimahullah mentions that it is established from Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam who mentioned, “Whichever Muslim passes by his brother’s grave who he knew in the world and greets him then Allah returns the deceased person’s soul to him until he responds to his Salaam.” This is explicit and clear that the deceased recognizes the person (the sender) and responds to his Salaam.

In conclusion, it is established from the Mubarak Hadith that the deceased can recognize the person that greets and passes over good deeds to him (at the graveyard and from a distance), with the permission of Allah.
