QUESTION:
There is an Instagram account run by an Aalimah graduate of Islahul Muslimaat. She teaches Maktab for Talimi Board at Reservoir Hills. Unfortunately she does things totally against that of an Aalimah/Aapa. She has stalls at (mixed) fairs, takes pictures of her students and markets her products at high prices. She also doesn’t take any criticism and refuses to listen to those who advise her. Now she’s advertising a workshop hosted by her (she’s only teaching for a few years) for R320 per person at a coffee shop in Mitchell Park in Durban. This place is not segragated; there are male workers on site and it overlooks a tennis court that is also not segragated. Please comment on this.
ANSWER:
The Aapa in question is deviated herself, and she is leading other Aapas astray. She is involved in various wrongs as understood from your query such as conducting business at (mixed) fairs, taking pictures, refusing to take advice from well-wishers, etc. She is violating a clear injunction of the Quraan Sharif which states, “Remain within your homes,” by driving females out of their homes in the name of Deen. Many of the Aapas attending will be driving to the venue without any Mahaarim accompanying them, which is yet another wrong. Furthermore, her advert clearly states that the Purdah facilitated area is not 100% Purdah friendly, which again indicates that enjoying and making merry enjoys superiority over the laws of Shariah. Also, if the concern was truly Deen and assisting students in the classroom, then why are delicacies, drinks and gifts, which have absolutely nothing to do with the program, included in the workshop. The workshop is nothing more than entertainment and a stepping stone to various forms of Fitnah in the future. We therefore advise that the programme should not be attended.
