Video clips of Palestinian Martrys
QUESTION:
Please advise what is the ruling on the massive media output of videos and images of martyrs which get forwarded across the globe. Given that photography is Haraam, what are the consequences of circulating these images of men, women and children? Does it pose any Adhaab to those who have departed? And what about those who are splashing these on social media? Are we perhaps making it more difficult by incurring the wrath of Allah Ta’ala by participating in this media communication?
ANSWER:
The massive media coverage of videos and pictures of the martyrs is totally impermissible and incorrect. The narration of Bukhari Sharif states, “The worst punishment on the day of Qiyaamah will be for the picture-makers.”[1] Hence, those displaying such pictures are guilty in terms of Shariah, and not the deceased.
Also, displaying these pictures is of no benefit to us whatsoever, but rather it is to our detriment. The enemies of Islam attain great pleasure by viewing these pictures, and they desire that the Muslims are harmed even more. The hatred for the Muslims in their heart is far greater than we can imagine. The Muslims on the other hand, enter a state of despondency looking at men, women and innocent children losing their lives. At the same time, we should keep in mind that no normal person would wish that his corpse be displayed on social media after his demise, hence, we should refrain from posting these pictures.
Some might argue that the objective is to expose the oppression of Israel and particularly how they have mercilessly killed thousands of men, women, and children. If these images would have affected them in any way, then they would have stopped their oppression decades ago, but their persistence in bombing the Palestinians is an indication of them being unconcerned with criticism by the world at all. They will do absolutely anything to achieve their goals and objectives. In conclusion, it is not permissible to display pictures of the martyrs on social media.
