Dressing children in bright coloured clothing
Question:-
We know boys shouldn’t wear bright colors. Recently, a woman gave birth and some people gave her outfits with red and orange.
1) Will it be ok to make her son wear it?
2) If she makes the baby wear it, will it be a sin?
3) From what age should we start inculcating the Islamic way of dress?
Answer:-
1. It will not be permissible to make one’s child (son) wear bright coloured clothing such as red and orange clothing. However, if the clothing is not pure red in colour and has another colour together with it (eg. black stripes), then wearing such clothing will be permitted.
2. Yes, the parents will be sinful for making their male children wear bright coloured clothing.
Furthermore, a child should be dressed in accordance to Shariah from the time he is able to wear children’s clothing, so that he may grow up wearing Islamic clothing which will then remain with him perpetually Insha’Allah. Clothing definitely has an effect on a person.
