Entering Masjidul Aqsa In A State Of Haidh

QUESTION:

I would like clarification regarding the ruling of women entering Masjid al-Aqsa while in a state of Haidh. It is understood that Masjid al-Aqsa refers to the entire compound (al-Haram al-Sharif) and not only specific buildings such as the Qibli Masjid or the Dome of the Rock. However, I have heard varying scholarly opinions on this matter.

Some state that women in Haidh are permitted to enter the open courtyard/compound, but not the actual prayer structures. Others state that since the entire compound is considered a Masjid, women in Haidh are not permitted to enter any part of it. Could you please clarify which of these views is preferred?

ANSWER:

Women in the state of Haidh are not allowed to enter the entire compound which is a total area of 144,000m². This includes all the Masaajid and the open areas of the compound. A further proof that the entire compound is a Masjid is that Sunnah I’tikaaf is permitted anywhere in the entire compound.

وهو أيضًا أول القبلتين في الإسلام. يقع داخل البلدة القديمة بالقدس في فلسطين. وهو كامل المنطقة المحاطة بالسور واسم لكل ما هو داخل سور المسجد الأقصى الواقع في أقصى الزاوية الجنوبية الشرقية من البلدة القديمة المسورة. تبلغ مساحته قرابة 144000 متر مربع، ويشمل قبة الصخرة والمسجد القِبْلي والمصلى المرواني ومصلى باب الرحمة، وعدة معالم أخرى يصل عددها إلى 200 معلمًا. ويقع المسجد الأقصى فوق هضبة صغيرة تُسمى «هضبة موريا»، وتعد الصخرة أعلى نقطة فيه (الموسوعة للفلسطين)
