Exaggerating Financial Standing

Jul 15, 2026 | Character And Mannerism

QUESTION:

Can I submit exaggerated financial statements in order to secure a loan which I intend to pay off, and will be able to pay off Insha’Allah?

ANSWER:

This is a form of deception. It is not permissible for you to carry out such an action. Consider the following Hadith:

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال‏:‏ من حمل علينا السلاح فليس منا ومن غشنا، فليس منا‏ (‏رواه مسلم‏ # 170)‏‏

Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “He who takes up arms against us is not from amongst us, and he who deceives us is not from amongst us.”

Furthermore, such actions will prove to be a means of humiliation and disgrace for the Muslim Ummah if one is apprehended and exposed. Bringing humiliation and disgrace upon the Muslims is not permissible. We, therefore, advise abstention from acquiring such loans.
