Exhaling sound at the end of a verse in Salaah

Question:-

The Imaam in his Salaah recitation tends to often exhale immediately after finishing every Aayah. Many times, this exhalation at the end of the Aayah makes it sound like he is joining the true last-letter of an Aayah with a (Haa). For example: (Innma’all’usri yusraaah, when it should be Innma’all’usri yusraaa)  -إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْراه Does this affect the validity of our Salaah behind him?

Answer:- 

An Imaam should ensure that the Quraan Shareef is recited correctly to the extent that, he should not add or subtract any letters to the wording of the Quraan Sharif. If the Imaam increases a letter (to the wording of the Quraan Sharif) but it doesn’t change the meaning in any way, then Salaah will be valid according to majority of the scholars. However, if by increasing a letter the meaning changes, then Salaah will be invalidated.

However, in the scenario explained by you, we understand that the Imaam is not intentionally adding any letters to the wording of the Quraan Sharif. Instead, he is exhaling at the end of the verse which is creating the sound of an additional letter (Haa). The meaning will not change in the example cited by you hence, the exhaling sound will not invalidate the Salaah. However, the Imaam should try to refrain from doing so in the future.

ومنها زيادة حرف إن زاد حرفا فإن كان لا يغير المعنى لا تفسد صلاته عند عامة المشايخ نحو أن يقرأ وانهى عن المنكر بزيادة الياء. هكذا في الخلاصة وكذا نحو أن يقرأ هم الذين كفروافيجزم الميم من هم ويظهر الألف من الذين وكانت الألف محذوفة فلا تفسد الصلاة وكذا نحو أن يقرأ وما خلق الذكر والأنثى فأظهر الألف وكانت محذوفة وأظهر اللام وكانت مدغمة في الذال. هكذا في المحيط وإن غير المعنى نحو أن يقرأ وزرابيب مبثوثة مكان وزرابي أو مثانين مكان مثاني أو الذكر والأنثى وإن سعيكم لشتى، والقرآن الحكيم، وإنك بزيادة الواو تفسد. هكذا في الخلاصة (الفتاوي الهندية ص155ج1)
