Experiencing continuous bleeding after Nifaas for 3 months

Nov 5, 2021 | Haidh And Nifaas

Question:

A woman experiences continuous bleeding for a period of three months after childbirth. This blood sometimes decreases. How many days are considered as Haidh and how many days as Nifaas?

Answer:

If this is her first child then she will be categorized as a Mubtadi’ah (a beginner). The first forty days after childbirth will be considered as Nifaas. Thereafter, the following 15 days will be considered as Tuhr (clean days). The bleeding experienced within these 15 days will be categorized as Istihaadha. The days (that follow) after these 15 days will be Haidh according to her previous habit of Haidh.

If this is not her first child but she previously delivered children as well, then her Nifaas will be according to her previous habit. Thereafter, the following 15 days will be considered as Tuhr (clean days) followed by her previous habit of Haidh.
