Fade haircuts
Question:-
Please can you comment on the permissibility of ‘fade’ haircuts? We have seen people claim that having the hair cut two distinctly different grades, is fine to do so if it is done with the intention of not imitating kufaar.
Many brothers have begun to cite the following page also (which references hanafi texts), as justification:

Answer:-
It should be borne in mind that we, as Muslims, are governed by the laws of Allah Ta’ala. Any person who abides by the laws of Allah and His Rasul Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam will be successful in this world and the hereafter. The laws of Shariah govern every aspect of our life to the extent that, our dressing and physical appearance (which includes our hairstyle) are also governed by the Shariah.
عن ابن عمر أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم رأى صبيا قد حلق بعض شعره وترك بعضه فنهاهم عن ذلك وقال احلقوه كله أو اتركوه كله
(سنن أبي داود 4195)
Abdullah bin Umar Radiallahu Anhuma narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam saw a child whose head was partially shaven. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam prohibited them from cutting their hair in such a manner and said, “Shave all the hair or leave all the hair.”
Also, there are narrations which clearly indicate that the Sahaabah Radiallahu Anhum also objected to haircuts that were against Shariah, where a portion of the head is shaved, whilst the remainder remains unshaven.
عن أبي سلام قال دخلت على عائشة وفي رأسي قزع فأمرت به فجز أو حلق
(مصنف ابن أبي شيبة 25273)
Abu Salaam narrates, “I entered in the presence of Hadrat Aa’ishah Radiallahu Anha whilst part of the hair on my head was shaven and the remainder of the head was unshaven. Hadrat Aa’ishah Radiallahu Anha commanded regarding my hair (that all the hair be removed). Hence, all my hair was clipped or shaved.”
عن الحجاج بن حسان قال دخلنا على أنس بن مالك فحدثتني أختي المغيرة قالت وأنت يومئذ غلام ولك قرنان أو قصتان فمسح رأسك وبرك عليك وقال احلقوا هذين أو قصوهما فإن هذا زي اليهود
(سنن أبي داود 4197)
Hajjaaj bin Hassaan narrates, “We entered in the presence of Anas Bin Maalik Radiallahu Anhu. My sister Mugheerah mentioned to me, ‘You were a young boy at the time and had two plaits. Hadrat Anas Radiallahu Anhu passed his hand over your head and made Dua of Barakah for you. Anas (Radiyallahu Anhu) said, “Shave these two (plaits) or trim them, as this is the style of the Jews.”
Now, in the light of the above-mentioned narrations, we understand that “Fade haircuts” will not be permissible since it falls under the ambit of Qa’zaa (where a portion of the hair is trimmed whilst the remaining hair remains untrimmed or slightly trimmed.) Also, by adopting such haircuts, one will be imitating the Kuffar, even though one may not have the Niyyat of following their ways.
