Hifdhul-Quraan Jalsah

QUESTION:

Would it be permissible to host a meal and distribute gifts on the occasion of a Hifdh-ul-Qur’aan completion?  Also, what would the best manner of hosting the event in the case of a Haafidhah?

ANSWER:

The occasion of the completion of Quraan is one of extreme joy. The mercy of Allah Ta’ala descends and Duas are accepted. Celebrating such occasions, in moderation, while adhering to the laws of Hijab, keeps the importance of Quraan alive in the community. However, one should desist from wastage, intermingling and breaking the laws of hijab. The girls must not recite in front of men, and it is better if their names are not mentioned in front of the crowd.

عن أنسٍ أنَّه كان إذا ختم القرآنَ جمع أهلَه
رواه  البيهقي في شعب الإيمان (٢/٨٤٧)  و  أخرجه الطبراني (١/ ٢٤٢) (٦٧٤)،
عَن مُجاهدٍ، قالَ: بلَغني أنَّ الرَّحمة تَنزِلُ عندَ خَتمِ القرآنِ

Furthermore, to feed on the occasion of the completion of the Quraan is established from the Sahaabah Radiallahu Anhum,

عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ:تَعَلَّمَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ الْبَقَرَةَ فِي اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً، فَلَمَّا خَتَمَهَا نَحَرَ جَزُورًا
(شعب الإيمان #1806)

Ibn Umar Radiallahu Anhuma mentioned that, “When Umar Radiallahu Anhu memorized Surah Baqarah after 12 years, he slaughtered a camel (and fed the people).”
