Question:-
What is the best way of acquiring knowledge of Deen in detail?
Answer:-
The correct method of acquiring knowledge is by presenting oneself before a pious, Allah-fearing teacher and acquiring the knowledge of Deen directly from him. This method of acquiring knowledge was adopted by the noble companions of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam and is one of the most effective methods of acquiring knowledge. The Sahaabah presented themselves before Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam and acquired the knowledge of Deen directly from him. Also, when acquiring knowledge from a righteous and pious teacher, the student acquires his piety as well, and this enables him to practice upon his knowledge. Such knowledge is referred to as Ilm-e-Naa’fi (beneficial knowledge.)
Also, there are a certain occasions when the teacher does not suffice on merely explaining the ruling of Shariah but needs to practically demonstrate the method of acting upon the ruling. Hadrat Abdullah Bin Masood Radiallahu Anhu would not only teach the method of performing Salaah in theory, but would practically demonstrate the method of performing Salaah before his students, in the manner that he learnt to perform Salaah from Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Other Sahaabah practically demonstrated the method of making Wudhu before their students and this method of imparting knowledge is prevalent up to this very day as well. This is the same method existent in our current day Darul Ulooms or Madrasahs. We therefore advise that this method of acquiring knowledge is adopted so that maximum benefit may be derived.
