How to deal with a family member on drugs

Question:-

Mufti Saheb, kindly advise what would be the manner of maintaining family ties with a person who is heavily on drugs, refuses to get help and is difficult to be around, as one is unsure of their condition and feels endangered by them.

Answer:-

Indeed they are treading the incorrect path, but at the same time, they require our assistance. These are really good people but the action in which they are involved, is deplorable. The seniors in the family should try to guide them, take them to gatherings of Deen, and keep making Dua for them. There is hope that they could change someday. We have seen people that use to contact us with the same problem and felt that they could never give up substance abuse. Today, with the Fadhl of Allah Ta’ala, they are completely clean. So, the most important thing is to make Dua for them and never give up.  Abdullah Bin Mubarak Rahimahullah had a history of drinking and partying in his youth, but his parents never stopped making Dua for him and trying to protect him. He became the Imaam of Hadith in the East and the West. However, never be alone with them. Always be in company when they are around us. May Allah Ta’ala guide him to the correct path. Ameen!
