Imaam performing Salaah with impurity on clothing

Question:-

If an Imaam mistakenly leads Salaah with impurity on his clothes, and the time of Salaah has passed, what should he do?

Answer:-

If the Imaam led the congregation with impurity on his clothing (which was more than the amount of a Dirham – estimated to be 2.75cm in diameter), then the Salaah of the Imaam was not valid. In this instance, he should announce or put up posters informing the Musallis to repeat their Salaah. The poster should be left on the notice board for at least a week so that the message comfortably reaches all the Musallis.

وأما طهارة ثوبه فلقوله تعالى {وثيابك فطهر} [المدثر: 4] فإن الأظهر أن المراد ثيابك الملبوسة وأن معناه طهرها من النجاسة، —-وإذا وجب التطهير لما ذكرناه في الثوب وجب في المكان والبدن بالأولى—- وأشار باشتراط طهارة الثوب إلى أنه لو حمل نجاسة مانعة فإن صلاته باطلة (البحر الرائق ص281 ج1)
