QUESTION:
When the family of Hadrat Yusuf Alaihis Salaam made Sajdah to him at the end of his incident, which wife of Hadrat Yaqub Alaihis Salaam made Sajdah? Was it the mother of Hadrat Yusuf Alaihis Salaam?
ANSWER:
There is a difference of opinion regarding who made Sajdah to Yusuf Alaihis Salaam besides his brothers. One narration states that the parents of Yusuf Alaihis Salaam did not make Sajdah to him as they were raised on the throne.
Another narration states that Yusuf Alaihis Salaam’s maternal aunt, Layya, who was married to Yaqub Alaihis Salaam after Yusuf Alaihis Salaam’s mother Raahil had passed away, made Sajdah to him.
Yet, another narration says that Yusuf Alaihis Salaam’s deceased mother Raahil was raised from her Qabr so that she was able to make Sajdah to him.
«وَ خَرُّوا لَهُ سُجَّداً» ولم يسجد الأب ولا خالته حيث قال: «وَرَفَعَ أَبَوَيْهِ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ» فإن يوسف صانهما عن ذلك مراعاة لحشمة الأبوة. (تفسير قشيري 2/168)
