Installing a 5g transmitter on Masjid premises
Question:-
Our Masjid Shura has taken the decision to install a 5g cell transmitter on the Masjid property. Is it correct for this to be installed for monetary gain, taking into consideration that there are some reports of damage to health due to the radiation emitting from these transmitters. Also, the use of 5g is for accessing the internet mostly, which is largely used for Haraam activities, such as streaming videos, listening to music, watching porn, etc.
Answer:-
1. There is no harm in installing the transmitter particularly if it is going to be a means of income for the Masjid. [Re:- Fataawa Mahmoodiyya pg. 233 vol.22 Meerut print] Radiation is certainly harmful to one’s health, but hardly anyone is protected from its effects as it is emitted from our mobile devices, wi-fi connections, microwaves, transmitters installed in the neighbourhood, etc. We do agree that the level of radiation may vary, but indeed all radiation is harmful.
2. There are two dimensions to the usage of the internet. It can be used in a positive or negative manner. Any item with a dual purpose (such as a cellphone or laptop) is permissible to sell (in one’s store), particularly when it is unknown what the purchaser will be using the item for. The same ruling will be applicable in this instance, hence, it will be permissible to have it installed.
