Jumuah Salaah in a Musallah

Dec 15, 2021 | Jumuah / Eid

Question:-

Are we permitted to hold the congregational Jumuah prayers in a Musallah? What are the conditions for the validity of the said Jumuah prayers?

Answer:-

Jumuah Salaah will be valid (in a Musallah) if all the requisites of Jumuah are found as discussed in the Kitaabs of Fiqh. However, moving away from the Masajid to a Musallah simply on the basis of convenience will gradually result in the Ummat losing reverence and respect for the Masajid, whereas the Masajid are from amongst the symbols of Allah Taála, and revering the symbols of Allah Taála is an indication of Taqwa in one’s heart. In conclusion, brothers should be encouraged to move over to the Masajid for the Jumuah Salaah.

The usage of the Musallahs for Jumuah Salaah during the lockdown period was on the basis of necessity. The principle in regards to necessities are as follows; ‘A necessity is determined (or calculated) according to the need.’ Once the necessity is fulfilled, the rule of necessity falls away and one will be required to revert to the general rule. Hence, the necessity of utilizing the Musallahs for Jumuah no longer remains (due to the Masajid now being able to accommodate the large crowds without any restriction), thus the Masajid should once again be used.
