QUESTION:
Is it permissible for a woman to use the same utensils as a Ghair Mahram male? For example, families often prepare food for Jamaats by their Masaajid, so if a male eats from a salad for example using a spoon, and then puts that spoon into the dish itself, is there any ruling regarding the permissibility of a woman using that same spoon etc. (without washing it, as she wouldn’t have known that someone used it)?
ANSWER:
It is Makrooh for a female to utilize a utensil that a male used for eating, not because it is Napaak, but due to the enjoyment that she could possibly take knowing that a male had used the same utensil. The same ruling applies to a male utilizing the utensil of a female. [Re:- Fataawa Uthmaniyyah Pg.26 Vol.10] However, if the utensil was washed and then used, there is no harm in doing so.
