Dua in the bathroom and desiring death

Sep 10, 2023 | Miscellaneous

QUESTION:

1. Due to toilets, showers and basins being in the same room, is it permissible to read Duas (for making Wudhu, dressing and undressing etc.) in your mind?

2. What should a woman’s intention be for serving her husband and family and maintaining the household? Is it sufficient to say that it is for Allah’s pleasure alone, or should she include that it is for her husband’s pleasure?

3. Is it incorrect to yearn for death? The intention is with the hope of Allah’s pleasure, forgiveness, mercy, and to be reunited in peace with loved ones that have already passed on, and the fear of Allah’s wrath and punishment over one’s sins and shortcomings.

ANSWER:

1. Making Dua in the mind will be in order.

2. She should make the intention of serving him for the pleasure of Allah and thereby attaining closeness to Him. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “If I commanded anyone to make Sajdah to another, then I would have commanded the wife to make Sajdah to her husband.” This indicates towards the elevated status that the husband enjoys, and that the wife should serve and please her husband as long as it is within the limits of Shariah.

A narration of Mishkaat states, “Any woman that observes her five daily Salaah, fasts in the month of Ramadaan, preserves her honour and serves her husband, then she may enter from whichever door of Jannah she wishes.”

It is recorded in a narration of Tirmidhi Sharif, “A woman that passes away while her husband is pleased with her will enter Jannah.”

 3. It is recorded in a narration of Bukhari and Muslim that one should not desire death, as he will either carry out good deeds and be increased or carry out evil and repent.

It is also recorded in a narration of Bukhari and Muslim that one should not desire death due to a calamity that has befallen him. If he is left with no option but to desire death then he should say, “O Allah, grant me life as long as life is best for me and grant me death if death is best for me.”

However, there is no harm in desiring and longing to meet Allah Ta’ala, to be with Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam in Jannah and make Dua to encounter the noble countenance of Allah Ta’ala etc. However, since the time of death of every person has been stipulated, we should spend our time correctly by preparing for the hereafter and death will approach on its time. We shouldn’t be sitting and longing for the hereafter whilst time fades away without us preparing for the hereafter.

ALLAH TA’ALA ALONE IN HIS INFINITE KNOWLEDGE KNOWS BEST!
