QUESTION:
I will be performing Hajj Tamattu, Insha’Allah. I read that for the Hady (animal sacrifice) before shaving the head, one must make a Niyyah (intention) that the Hady is specifically ‘for Hajj Tamattu’. I have arranged for an agent to carry out the Hady on my behalf and have already paid them to perform the sacrifice on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah. However, at the time of payment, I did not explicitly make the Niyyah that the Qurbani is ‘for Hajj Tamattu’. At that point I just had Hajj in general in mind, and I am unsure if the abattoir will make the Hajj Tamattu Niyyah at the point of slaughter. Will the Hady still be valid?

Yes, one must make the Niyyah of ‘Tamattu’ as you have correctly pointed out in your query. You should inform the agent as soon as possible so that the correct intention can be made before slaughtering the animal.
