Question:-
A Masbooq misses one Rakaat behind the Imaam. When the Imaam makes Salaam, he forgetfully makes Salaam with the Imaam. However, he recalls that he had missed a Rakaat and completes the missed Rakaat. Is he required to make Sajdah-e-Sahw at the end of his Salaah?
Answer:-
There can be three scenarios to this Mas’ala; either he made Salaam before the Imaam, or he made Salaam simultaneously with the Imaam, or he made Salaam after the Imaam. In the first two cases, Sajda-e-Sahw will not be obligatory upon the Muqtadi. However, in the last case where Salaam was made after the Imaam, which is the most common case, Sajda-e-Sahw will be Waajib (obligatory), irrespective of whether the Masbooq made a single Salaam to his right, or both Salaams.
وَمِنْ أَحْكَامِهِ أَنَّهُ لو سَلَّمَ مع الْإِمَامِ سَاهِيًا أو قَبْلَهُ لَا يَلْزَمُهُ سُجُودُ السَّهْوِ لِأَنَّهُ مُقْتَدٍ وَإِنْ سَلَّمَ بَعْدَهُ لَزِمَهُ (البحر الرائق ص662 ج1)
