Method of combing the hair for men

Question:-

When combing the hair should the hair be separated into two parts from the centre of the head or from the point where the hair naturally separates?

Answer:-

There is no harm in combing the hair from the point where it separates naturally or from the middle of head. There is no prohibition in Shariah from practicing on any of the two methods. Yes, the prohibition is from imitating hairstyles of the Kuffar and sinners and from adopting hairstyles of women.

Hadrat Abdullah Bin Abbas Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam would initially leave his hair free flowing without a centre parting, as the Mushrikeen of Makkah used to have a centre parting, whilst the Ahle Kitaab used to leave their hair (free flowing) without a centre parting. Initially, Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam used to like (his actions) to correspond with the Ahle Kitaab in those matters wherein a clear cut ruling was not found from the side of Allah Ta’ala. (This ruling was later abrogated) and Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam also began combing his hair from the centre (making it into two parts).  [Bukhari – Hadith no. 3558]

The Ulama explain from the above narration that there is no harm (for men) in maintaining a centre parting (irrespective of whether it is from the actual centre of the head or from the area where the hair naturally divides into two parts, as explained above.)
