QUESTION:
Would it be permissible to use the benefits of someone else’s medical aid scheme to get a discount when booking flights?
ANSWER:
One is permitted to take benefit from an involuntary medical aid policy. The example of an involuntary medical aid policy is where an employer enforces the medical aid upon his employees with the employee having no choice in the matter.
If the benefits of the involuntary medical aid is exclusively for the subscriber or the beneficiaries of the medical aid policy, then it will not be correct for a non-member to benefit from the policy. If there are no restrictions, then it will be permissible.
