QUESTION:
The urine of a rabbit is pure according to the view of the majority of the scholars. So is it correct to say that, if a person whose clothes or body are touched by the urine of a rabbit, performs a prayer, his prayer is valid, and his prayer is valid even if the place on which he performs the prayer is touched as well, that is because we are allowed to eat the meat of a rabbit?
ANSWER:
The view of the Ahlul Hadith is that the urine of animals whose meat is permissible to consume, is Taahir. The Hanafi jurists do not agree with this view but consider the urine of Halaal animals as Najaasat-e- Khafeefah (light form of impurity). In principle, if Najaasat-e-Khafeefah (light form of impurity) soils one’s clothing, then Salaah in such clothing will be valid if it contaminates a quarter of the clothing. This only refers to the urine of Halaal animals, as animal dung is categorized as Najaasat-e-Ghaleeza according to Imaam Abu Hanifa Rahimhaullah. In conclusion, this indicates that the urine of animals whose meat is consumed is Najis. [Re: Ahsanul Fataawa Vol:2 Pg:87]
