QUESTION:
Please explain why Salaah should be performed on the plane, if afterwards it will need to be repeated? (If the Salaah was performed while seated)
ANSWER:
The command of Allah Ta’ala to perform Salaah at its prescribed time needs to be fulfilled. The Quraan Sharif states, “Indeed Salaah has been made obligatory for the Mu’mineen at fixed hours.” [Surah Nisa, Verse 103] Since, we are unable to fulfil the command of Allah at its fixed time as required in Shariah, we will fulfil this command of Allah Ta’ala in a deficient manner (according to our ability), and later make up for the deficiency by performing the Salaah in a perfect and complete manner. In conclusion, performing Salaah on the plane is to fulfil the command of Allah Ta’ala on its fixed time that is directed to us in the abovementioned verse, which is an indication of our submission and humility before our Creator.
إن الصلوة كانت على المؤمنين كتبا موقوتا (النساء: 103) جاء عن ابن مسعود رضي الله عنه أنه قال: المراد من هذا الذكر في الصلاة، وقال عليه السلام لعمران بن حصين رضي الله عنه حين عاده وهو مريض: صل قائما فإن لم تستطع فقاعدا، فإن لم تستطع فعلى الجنب تومىء إيماء والمعنى في ذلك أن الطاعة بحسب الطاقة.
